With bard / monk you will suffer from having too many stats to invest in. You will need high dexterity, constitution, charisma and wisdom. Four stats is a few too many. I’d suggest you might want to try the monk elemental subclass. That’s designed to give you a few spell like powers alongside the monk abilities.

Warlock get a familiar at level three. Rangers get one too. Warlocks can cast spells. 4! of them per long rest. Wow. They are supposed to be full spellcasters. 2 of them will usually be eaten up by hex and armor of agathys.
