I now currently have a Glock 30s and it is a bit thicker but with it's standard 10 round mag it's about the same grip length as my Shield and I get 3 more rounds.The Glock 30 subcompact pistol currently in production is Gen4. Production of the Gen3 version of the G30 was discontinued in January, 2014. The Glock 30S and Glock 30SF are Gen3 only. The G30S is a G30SF frame topped with a slimmer, lighter slide and smaller O.D. barrel originally designed for the G36 single stack 45ACP pistol.The 33 is quick where the 30 is more of a push. The 10 round mag makes a difference for me over the 9 round in control of the 30. The 30SF is fairly comfortable for me; the regular 30 not so much, but the Gen4 is ( which is supposedly the same as the SF). In my area 9 mm is in the $20 range, .40 $28-29, and ,45 just over $30.The 30 series was simply designed as combat guns and intended for combat loads. With those, the G30 was uber reliable. To make a long story short, the G30 quickly became my favorite Glock. My test sample never went back—I sent a check to Glock and bought the darn thing. It was to be the first of a series of compact Glocks in .45 ACP.

From my understanding, the 30 gen 4 has the same grip dimensions as the 30SF if you don't use a backstrap attachment. Also, the 30SF has the dual recoil spring assembly which is also included in the Gen 4 models. With that being said, are there any differences between the 30 gen 4 and the 30SF?

After a side-by-side comparison, the Model 30SF really isn't a lot bigger than the Model 39 or Model 36. A little wider than the Model 36 and a bit taller and longer than the Model 39. In addition, the availability of .45ACP vs. .45GAP was a factor in my decision.

I carry both, the G 38 will have a grip the same width as a G 19. The 8 round mag for the G 38 holds 9 rounds and is a full length grip. The slide is thicker, however than that of the G 30S. OI carry my G 38 more than the G 30 or 30S.
