It was all building to this wild climax not only between the Old Empire and the HM, but also between them and something else. Kralizec was one book away. The Typhoon Struggle and the fulfillment of the Golden Path. So yes, in the end, I would say read them all. Dune, Messiah, and Children are most often referred to as the best ones.

Born a Crime by Trevor Noah - A book about a "half-white half-black" boy growing up in South Africa, without being able to really become part of the white community / black community. It is a nice book about making fun of life, despite the challenges. And also teaches that people in so-called "poor countries" are just as human and relatable as ...I have used Reddit's top 200 books for a while now to find books to read. Witch Twins by Adele Griffin. The Boxcar Children series. Most of Enid Blyton's books, such as the Malory Towers series and Far-Away Tree series. The books that affected me the absolute most emotionally were definitely Chasing Redbird, Esperanza Rising, and Pictures of Hollis Woods.I discovered Joe Abercrombie last year, blitzed through the First Law trilogy, immediately read the first two books of the new trilogy then realised he wrote three books between them! I haven't read Wisdom of Crowds (if that's the name) but I've just started The Heroes. I can't get enough.

The best ever is Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake, then Book of the New Sun by Wolfe. The Witcher books are also literally medieval, and Joe Abercrombie's new series is fantastic as well. The Once and Future King is great. It's about King Arthur, Merlin, and the Knights of the Round Table! The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings.

Grim tale about the nature of humans after everything collapses. Shows some of the extremes we could go to. It’s still on my list of great books. Now I’ve read more one of my favorite books is a classic by Alexandre Dumas, The count of monte Cristo. The Dead Will Tell by Linda Castillo was brutal. It's about fifth in a series and dips a little into unrelated side plots that may not interest readers who aren't following along with all the books, but the core plot made a surprisingly huge impact about lasting damage that can result from an act of cruelty.I love Jaci Burton’s sports romance books. Some great recommendations in the thread already, especially the Game On series by Kristen Callihan and the Escape to New Zealand series by Rosalind James. I also loved Intercepted and Fumbled by Alexa Martin (who was actually an NFL wife, which is fun).

The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty - Probably the book that has come the closest to genuinely scaring me. The Shining and Salems Lot by Stephen King - my two favorites of his. The Shining is a great haunted house story and a great descent into madness which are my two favorite horror genres, fascinating story that never gets old.As a history nerd and former history undergrad, I love, love, love historical fiction. My personal favorites: Epic: Shogun by James Clavell, a British sailor crashlands in Japan during the beginning of the Edo era, meets a famous Shogun, and learns the ways of the Japanese. Epic in scope, great as a primer to Japanese culture even if you don't know …My favorite book! dctrhu • 5 yr. ago. To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is one of the essential, 'everyone must read' novels. Just a simple novel from a simple perspective about simple hatred and simple faith. Yet despite that, it's beautiful, moving, and a worthy character study of the 'good man' in Atticus Finch. The most recommended published works: Cradle (obviously), Arcane Ascension, Mage Errant, and probably Stormweaver. If you include web novels then add: Mother of Learning to the list. The last 2 Dresden books were written as one book then changed into 2 in editing and it really shows.Aug 5, 2021 ... For mysteries P.D. James wrote good, well written mysteries with a serious literary feel. I think Dorothy Sayers Peter Wimsey mysteries are well written. Elizabeth George and Deborah Crombie also do well-written mysteries.

Totally agree! Writing For Emotional Impact changed everything for me. It's the best book out there on screenwriting and I don't understand people don't really know about it. Also one of my favorites. It covers the most important thing that many other books skip over: how to make the reader/viewer FEEL SOMETHING. Feel free to post one book or multiple books. For me, the books I consider perfect are Les Miserables, Don Quixote, Watership Down and The Iliad (there's bound to be more but for the time being these are the ones that pop into my head). Les Miserables - it's tragic but also immensely life-affirming. Some of my favorite authors in this genre are Patrick O'Brian, Bernard Cornwell, and Colleen McCullough. I also love Larry McMurtry and Dan Simmons, but their works are probably somewhat over-fictionalized. I am quite often drawn to Historical Fiction. If you're really invested in them, I'd definitely read the rest of the series, but the events covered in the rest of the novels don't affect the wider galaxy as much.

All Heads Turn When the Hunt Goes By by John Farris - The next best Southern Gothic horror you'll find. Also strong candidate for best book title ever. The Ceremonies by T.E.D. Klein - Lovecraft-ish atmospheric 80's goodness. We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson - AKA the other one. It’s by Kristen Ashley. One of the best books I have ever read. Loved the MFC, loved the barbarian king (eventually). This is part of a series, but you can read it first no problem. It’s kinda of a Tolkien/disney blend. World building is amazing in this series.
