In docked you have 1080p window with DR between 720p and 900p. So if you are using docked mode in handheld, you're downscaling window resolution to 720p which means you will get not clean image, but approximation. This is technology issue you cannot get past. Handheld mode looks crisper because the resolution of the game isn't 720p. It's lower. So when you start playing it docked and you don't use the proper TV settings (smartview) the graphics will look somewhat fuzzier. But it still looks more playable than handheld.
