There's a thing called AAA. The OEM tire is 37 pounds on most F-150's, add another 30 for the wheel, you gain almost 70 pounds of payload. Honestly, mine goes to the back of the boat trailer, mounted there to lighten tongue weight and deal with the truck's towing limits. After searching some threads I found a much easier way to get the tire down without causing any damage or having to replace anything. If you take a 6 point 9/16 socket (I used a deep well, but not necessary) and about 15" of extensions and slide it down until you come in contact with the lock and then hit the extension a couple good wraps with a sledge it "seats" over the locking mechanism.Necessary Tools to Remove Spare Tire from Ford F150 Without Key.
