Thanks for the tip! Two possible roadblocks. 1.) You have to have the feat to craft the harden steel sword as well as putting the hardened steel sword in the forge. Usually, it gives you the message that you lack the expertise. 2.) The weapon needs to be at 100% durability. The Dragonbone weapon recipes are easy to make a suicide run for. From the Arena obelisk you will be near a giant pit. drop down onto the closest support beam, then drop onto the mezzanine, then run like hell down the stairs and straight towards the obelisk.
