Borderlands is one of my favorite games, and still my favorite game in the series. I'm excited for you! Lilith really is a beast, and her skill tree is super versatile. Running an smg and focusing on her elemental tree is a good way to go OP later in the game. Her phase shifting is also a lot of fun, and works as a great "oh shit!" skill in combat.

There are a couple good guides on the gearbox forums for Lilith. Older guide that I personally prefer. Newer guide that is a little more in-depth on some subjects. Respeccing is so cheap in this game that it's practically free, so don't be afraid to do it. I personally play a Controller/ Assassin build and with Mind Games, a good SMG or Shotgun, and a Phasewalk cooldown of next to nothing, Lilith rapes things. I'm practically invincible.
