Remington sportsman 48.
The attached pictures are of my Remington Sportsman 48, 12 guage, 2 3/4 or shorter shells. It is equipped with a Cutts/Lyman Adjustable Comp. Tube. The checkering appears to be in good shape except for one small scuff spot on the bottom of the fore arm. The rest of the stock has a few light scratches from age/use as expected.

I did a little research today and found out that the Model 11 -48 is basically the same gun as the Sportsman 48. Except it has holds 4 shells in the magazine of the model A. Forend is not grooved. Made 1949 - 69. Sportsmans Model 48 was made 1949 - 60.Last week I picked up 12 ga. Rem. Sportsman 48, serial #30013xx. According to the barrel code it dates to October 1948. 11-48 was 2 and 3/4 inch Only. The extractor does not so much pull the shell out of the chamber as it does hold it while the barrel goes forward. If it were to go bad the gun would trying to feed an additional round as well as failing to extract. I picked up a Remington Sportsman 48 20-gauge in nice condition with a vent rib improved cylinder barrel. On the right side of the barrel near the receiver are the letters “REP” and a star. Welcome to Shotgunworld!! I have several of each, and yes, the barrels are interchangable. The only difference between the 48 & 11-48 is that the 48 is a 3 shot and the 11-48 is a 5 shot. There was no "Sportsman 48" Skeet Grade. There was a Skeet Gun, and it could be had in any grade. The "Sportsman 48" SA was a basic "Standard" Grade with a Skeet choked barrel (or Cutts Compensator).
