The hard gel will rip the snot out of your nail bed come removal time. You would need to e-file the fake nail to get it off if hard gel is used, rendering the fake nail no longer ... I soak my hands in warm water with a little bit of a moisturizing hand soap (just a few drops, it seems to help soften up the skin) then use the Sally Hansen cuticle remover. I leave it on for about 30-45 seconds even though the bottle says 15 seconds, then push the articles back and wash hands. I do this once a week. The cheap polishes on Amazon are cheap for a reason. On the other hand, you can order gel polishes from Sally, but you are paying the $10-20 EACH bottle price for the name brands like Gelish or OPI. Yes, always. It all comes down to personal taste, but I can’t stand the look of one short nail when the rest are long.
