Gyngyn was actually right tho. People submit secondaries as soon as they've thoughtfully completed them. There's no average time of submission. I know of people who submitted some 3 and even 4 weeks after the "two week soft deadline" and they still got II's at those schools.

As far as I know, all UCs, Stanford, U Pitt, and Vanderbilt (you will only be asked to do a secondary if you are offered an interview as per this year) screen before they send out invites to fill out their secondaries. Each school has their own classifications for who gets their secondaries and how many. Some take the top 50% or other set number, some just have a set GPA/MCAT cutoff, etc. For example, Mayo gets about 2500 apps/year (i think) and will do phone interviews (their secondaries) for about 500. Then they interview about 250.If I remember correctly, most secondaries I completed had 2 to 4 ~500-word questions. Some had no required questions, and one required a full page response.
