I haven't really noticed any difference except the steppers are a lot noisier (in terms of sound), print quality isn't as good as my older V2 but I'm thinking that's more due to it having a worse base (floor versus mass dampening table) …

It's a 4 contact switch, and you wire it fully in line. If the light goes out, the other circuit is not complete so just bypassing the light using the other 2 leads (which are actually the switched contacts) works just fine. If you want better reliability, go for the same part, but with a switch without a light.
